SASSA SRD SC19 Grant Application
Let’s start your SASSA SRD R370 (previously R350) grant application procedure. Please make your documents available before you start the application process. Here is the list of documents that you will need in the below application form.
- South African ID or asylum/refugee permit
- Medical report (only if disability is declared)
- Proof of citizenship or legal residency
- Active mobile phone number (registered in your name)
- Email address (optional)
- Residential address
Step 1: Visit the Official SRD Application Portal
To apply for the SRD R370 grant, go to the SRD application portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/application. Enter your mobile phone number to receive a PIN via SMS. Once you receive the PIN, enter it into the required field and click “Verify PIN” to complete phone number verification.
Step 2: Accept All Declaration and Consent
After verifying your phone number, you’ll be prompted to accept the Declaration and Consent form. Review all the terms and conditions, and if you agree, tap on the “Submit” button to proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Fill Out the SRD Grant Application Form
In Step 3, you’ll need to complete the SRD R370 grant application form. Begin by entering your ID Number (from your South African green ID document or smart ID card), Full Name, and Surname.
After providing these details, tap the “Verify Identity” button to confirm your ID information. The system will verify your details, and if everything is correct, you will be redirected to the next section of the application form.
Next, fill out the following information:
- Email Address
- Gender
- Highest Education Qualification (select from the drop-down options)
- Date of Last Employment (choose from the drop-down options)
- Disability Status (yes or no)
- Citizenship
- Address
- City
- Province
- District
- Municipality
- Ward Number
- Cell Phone Number (for receiving SMS and notifications from SASSA)
After entering all the required details, tap the “Submit” button to finalize your application. You will then receive a 6-digit Application ID. Make sure to copy and keep this ID safe as proof of your Social Relief of Distress grant application submission.
Step 4: Choose Payment Method
Finally, you need to choose your preferred payment method to get the SRD grant money. You can choose between cash or bank transfer. To choose the bank transfer you need to provide your banking details.
- Tap on the “Current Payment Option” to choose your preferred payment method.
- You will see three more options:
- Request Post Bank Account
- Capture your Own Bank Account
- Select Bank for Cash Send
- If you want to get the payments in your own bank account then choose the option b.
- Now choose your bank account name like ABSA, FNB, NEDBANK, Standard Bank, Capitec Bank, etc.
- Now choose the bank branch name.
- Choose an account type (Savings, Current/Cheque).
- Enter your bank account number.
- Submit the details and your application will be completed.
Apply for Social Relief of Distress Grant Application Via WhatsApp
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has introduced another way to apply for the SRD R370 grant. This method is to use your WhatsApp account to apply for the grant online.

- Open your WhatsApp account and send a message to this contact number.
- Ask for an application for the SRD grant.
- Follow the secure link that you will get from the SASSA.
- Now fill out the registration form and submit the form.

If your SASSA SRD application is declined, you have the option to submit an appeal through the SRD DSD Appeal Electronic Platform. Here’s what you need to do:
- Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/.
- Click the “Lodge SRD Appeal” button.
- Enter your phone number and verify it using the OTP SMS you receive.
- Select the reason for your application’s decline, such as “Identity Verification Failed” or “Another Income Source Identified.”
- Provide your reason for appealing the decision.
- Submit your appeal application.
